The Long Island Power Authority was heavily criticized by Gov. Andrew Cuomo for a lackluster performance during superstorm Sandy.

Nassau County D.A. Kathleen Rice discussed the State's plan to restructure LIPA during GDNY on Wednesday.

"I'm looking forward to hearing what the Governor has to say about LIPA. In setting up this commission rur major task was figuring out what went wrong. LIPA was originally intended to be a holding company. They are not a utility company. They contract out to National Grid to manage the distribution of power. The have no ability to turn the lights back on; the National Grid does. When you have that separation, you have no accountability."
