A part of Interstate 275 that is already bumper-to-bumper is about to get worse, because one of the busiest ramps will soon be closed.
Starting at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Exit 41-A, which takes you off I-275 south and loops around to southbound Dale Mabry Highway, will shut down.
Instead, drivers wanting to head either way on Dale Mabry will have to take the exit before that -- the one most drivers know as the northbound Dale Mabry exit.
Those headed to south Tampa will have to wait for the light, then turn left across traffic onto southbound Dale Mabry.
It will likely mean twice the traffic on that exit ramp -- and even more confusion.
"The potential exists during peak hours to have traffic backing up towards or onto the interstate. We'll monitor that. We'll be looking at that for a couple weeks and throughout the construction and we may have to make some adjustments," says John McShaffrey with the Florida Department of Transportation.
The closure is part of ongoing construction work going on along the interstate. Crews need to make way for new lanes and FDOT says the old loop ramp is in the way.
For drivers like Quentin Moore, it means a 45-minute drive to work will probably get longer.
"I think it's crazy! I think they ought to take new measures to make it suitable for everybody who's got to get to work on Dale Mabry. Now, you'll have people who won't even take the interstate unless you have to." Moore says.
