Union rep. discusses possible school bus driver strike

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

New York City school bus drivers were on the job Tuesday, but the threat of a possible strike still loomed.

The union representing the yellow bus drivers is threatening to walk off the job because the city has put out a bid for a new contract for bus operators to try to trim costs.

"Our window is closing but we hope to try to work this out with avoiding any kind of job action. The bids have to be returned to the City by Feb. 11. We're all for competitive bidding but we also want to protect the workers currently doing the jobs," Dan Gatto, President Local 854, told Good Day NY.

Chancellor Dennis Walcott accused the union of playing games with students and their families as he urged parents to make a plan.
