(Photo courtesy Lowry Park Zoo)A new member of the Lowry Park Zoo family will make her debut this week.
The 2-week old elephant calf is only the second elephant to be born at the zoo.
Zoo staff says she is doing well, learning to navigate the outdoors alongside her mother and her two "aunts," which the zoo describes as two other mature female elephants.
The calf's mother came from a herd of 11 elephants rescued from culling in Swaziland, Africa, and brought to the U.S. nearly a decade ago, according to the zoo.
The zoo plans a special event Saturday to celebrate the elephant's birth. It is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
