Tampa Fire Rescue personnel were the first to arrive at the scene early Sunday morning.
TAMPA (FOX 13) -
A 15-year-old young man from Tampa was killed early Sunday when he lost control of his vehicle on the Laurel Street Bridge.
Roderick Williams' car struck a guardrail, flipped over and landed in the Hillsborough River. It sank approximately 20 feet. Emergency Service Personnel with Tampa Fire Rescue got the teen out of the vehicle but it was too late.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a Tampa Police Department report the incident occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m.
Williams was traveling east on the bridge at the time of the crash. Members of the TPD Dive Team removed the vehicle from the water.
The bridge was closed for several hours as officers collected evidence. The official cause of the incident is still under investigation.
