SARASOTA (FOX 13) -

Authorities in Sarasota County have identified and arrested a suspect in the Black Friday robbery of a Bealls Outlet location on Cattlemen Rd.

Donald Francis Simon, 36, was booked into the Sarasota County Jail where he is being held on a bond of $100,000. He is charged with one count of robbery with a weapon.

Simon was identified by several people who contacted Crime Stoppers after seeing surveillance video from the November 23rd incident in the media.

According to a Sarasota County Sheriff's Office report Simon allegedly robbed a cashier at the retail store just after 7 p.m. Witnesses say he was armed with a knife which he pointed at several store employees.

The suspect fled on a black bicycle.

Detectives interviewed several of Simon's associates who confirmed he was the man seen on surveillance video provided by Bealls. A warrant was issued for his arrest but deputies were unable to locate him until Friday.

Investigators say Simon had been in hiding at an unknown location and was attempting to get enough money to flee the area. He was taken into custody Friday afternoon by the Fugitive Apprehension Unit.

The suspect has a lengthy criminal history that includes more than a dozen arrests. Simon's prior crimes include kidnapping, drug possession and burglary.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on the robbery with a weapon charges on February 1st.
