A Pinellas County school teacher facing child pornography charges made his first appearance before a judge on Saturday morning.

John Michael Kaneski, 42, is being held at the Pinellas County Jail on a bond of $200,000. The Cross Bayou Elementary instructor is charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography.

Saturday morning the judge set bond at $20,000 per count.

Investigators say the found images and videos of children engaging in sexual activity on his home computer.

According to a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office report Kaneski had been under investigation since November. Recently they executed a search warrant at his home where they confiscated his computer.

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri addressed the charges during a press conference on Friday.

"Its bad stuff, it's egregious stuff and these videos are just terrible," he said. "Detectives went on to the hard drive of Kaneski's computer and were able to, and this is minimally at this point download seven different videos involving young girls between the ages of 8 and 12 and they were engaged in various sex acts with adult males."

The suspect has been employed as an ESOL – English for Speakers of Other Languages – teacher at Cross Bayou ES since 2005.

Detectives say they children in the videos are not students at Kaneski's school.

In 2005 Kaneski was suspected of committing a sexual battery against an 8-year-old female student at Curlew Creek Elementary School. He was never charged because the alleged victim in the case recanted her statement.

In addition to the child pornography charges the suspect may be facing additional charges.

Gualtieri: "Kaneski may currently be involved in other inappropriate activity with at least one young girl."

The investigation continues.
