Lance Armstrong's attorney is denying a published report that the former cyclist has decided to admit to doping charges that cost him his seven Tour de France titles. Tim Herman says he has no knowledge of Armstrong considering a confession.
Armstrong, once considered one of the greatest cyclists until he was accused of masterminding a massive doping scheme and then stripped of seven Tour de France titles, is considering publicly admitting to using performance-enhancing substances, according to a report by the New York Times.
Armstrong has denied over and over again to having cheated in sports. He refused to enter arbitration to counter an investigation by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency in October 2012, effectively giving in to the agency's sanctions: the voiding of all his finishes and a lifetime ban on athletic competition.
Instead, he fought back with statements of denial and claimed USADA had no authority to strip him of his titles.
Armstrong also stepped down from his role in Livestrong, the foundation he started to fight cancer. He is a testicular cancer survivor.
According to the New York Times report, Armstrong has been in discussions with the USADA in an effort to perhaps overturn the lifetime ban so he can get back to competing.
