Police officers say they were forced to open fire when a pair of stolen vehicle suspects rammed their police cruisers Thursday morning.
It happened near Dr. Martin Luther King Way and Central Avenue in Sarasota.
The suspects, driver Stephanie Ann Hicks and passenger Floyd David Lee Laycock, were in a black 2012 Nissan, police say.
Officers tracked them into a dead end, where they allegedly slammed into three police cruisers.
Hicks was shot twice when officers opened fire on the car in fear for their lives. She suffered non-life threatening injuries and is recovering now at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
Hicks slammed the car into a nearby tree, and then surrendered to police. Laycock refused to get out of the vehicle, police said, and was bitten by a K9 dog.
None of the officers were injured. They will be placed on administrative leave, which is routine in officer-involved shootings.
