PLANT CITY (FOX 13) -

Two people were arrested and another hospitalized when a disagreement turned violent Saturday afternoon in Plant City.

Raymond Cook-Underwood and Brandan Matthew Berg were booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on a variety of charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The incident began just after 1:20 p.m. at a residence in the 3400 block of Keene Rd.

According to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office report Gabriel Navarrete and his girlfriend Diamond Bautista drove over to the Keene Rd. address seeking to collect on a debt from Berg, 21.

Outside the residence Navarrete, 21, got into a confrontation with Cook-Underwood, 19. Investigators say Cook-Underwood does not live there but is friends with Berg.

The exchange, which took place on the driveway of the home, soon turned violent. Cook-Underwood brandished a semi-automatic pistol and allegedly fired several shots into the air and the ground.

He then shot Navarrete in the thigh. Emergency Medical Personnel were dispatched to the scene and transported the injured man to Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

Within minutes, both Navarrete's brother and Berg arrived at the hospital. When Navarrete's brother saw Berg, he took a baseball bat and smashed the windshield on his vehicle.

Berg then picked up a barbell and shattered the rear and passenger side windows of Bautista's vehicle while she was still in it. The suspects then fled in Berg's car.

Witnesses reported seeing Berg firing a weapon from the vehicle as he drove away from the hospital.

A short time later, deputies pulled the suspect's car over in the Publix parking lot near the intersection of Interstate 4 and Thonotosassa Rd.

Berg and Cook-Underwood were taken into custody.

In addition to the assault charge Cook-Underwood is facing one count discharging a firearm in public, one count of felony gun possession and one count of aggravated battery with a firearm.

Berg is also charged with one count of discharging a firearm from a moving vehicle and felony criminal mischief.

Additional charges against the pair may be filed as the investigation continues.
