A 19-year-old Tampa man died early Saturday from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 275 on Friday morning.
Brandunn Sanchez was a passenger in a 2006 Nissan Sentra driven by Louis Alberto Garcia of Seffner.
Garcia, 21, and another passenger in his vehicle – 19-year-old Alberto Denis Ortega – suffered minor injuries. They were transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa where they were treated and released.
A fourth passenger – 23-year-old Christopher Phillip Spencer of Valrico – suffered critical injuries and was transported to St. Joe's as well.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report the incident occurred just before 5 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-275 near the Lois Ave. exit.
Investigators say Garcia was in the center lane when he attempted to change lanes. Rolando Emilio Rodriguez Sr. of Valrico was in the outside lane in his 2012 Honda Pilot and Garcia's Nissan collided with the side of the Pilot.
The collision caused both drivers to lose control of their respective vehicles. Both veered onto the outside shoulder of the roadway and both overturned several times before striking a shipping container located 75 feet south of the roadway.
The container belonged to a construction company working in the area.
Rodriguez, 40, was not injured. His 14-year-old son suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
The official cause of the crash is not yet known as the investigation continues. No charges have been filed.
