A Port Charlotte couple was arrested Friday for their roles in the December 20th theft of a plasma welder from the Tractor Supply location on Kings Highway.
Deputies tracked down Jeffrey Scott Sabatinelli and Christen Joy Dial after a witness reported seeing the pair stealing items from a Dollar General store Friday afternoon.
According to a Charlotte County Sheriff's Office report the couple left the store without paying for the merchandise. The witness followed and wrote down the license plate from their vehicle.
Sabatinelli, 34, and Dial, 31, drove to the Town Center Mall where they were stopped and detained by a deputy. The deputy noticed that the couple matched the description of the suspects in the December 20th theft.
At the time of his arrest Sabatinelli was wearing the same t-shirt and tennis shoes seen on surveillance video from the Tractor Supply incident. Inside their vehicle the deputy found the merchandise they allegedly took from the Dollar General.
The suspects were questioned and admitted to stealing the welder. Investigators say on December 20th Sabatinelli and Dial entered the store with a small child.
Surveillance cameras inside the business show Sabatinelli removing a pair of bolt cutters from a shelf and with Dial acting as a lookout he cut a cable securing the welder.
They left without paying for the piece of equipment valued at over $800.
Sabatinelli is facing one count of grand theft. He was booked into the Charlotte County Jail where he is being held on a bond of $2,500.
Dial was also charged with one count of grand theft. She is being held without bond due to a prior conviction out of Lee County. Dial was on probation at the time of this arrest.
Additional charges against the pair are expected as the investigation continues.
