There was an unexpected wake up call for a Tampa Bed and Breakfast Thursday.
Around 7:30 a.m. the driver of a Nissan Sentra lost control on Busch Boulevard and plowed into the Swiss Chalet Gift Shop.
Shattered glass, twisted metal and broken concrete littered the store.
Even a piece of the car's front fender was left behind too.
Owner Jim Boggs spent all morning picking up the broken pieces of his 27-year old business.
"The police called me this morning and told me I needed to get down here, a car had hit my building but I didn't know how bad it was until I got here with the car sitting inside my gift shop and it did a lot of destruction, " Boggs said.
The driver who crashed the car didn't stick around. The vehicle is now at an impound lot while police investigate.
Tampa police were able to track down the owner of the car, but Boggs says she had no idea her car was even missing,
"She finally came down and took a look at it. It was her car, but she claimed she didn't know anything about it, so it must have been stolen or something, " Boggs explained.
Boggs says it will take him some time to get his gift shop and business back up and running, which will hurt his bottom line during the busy holiday season.
" I can't believe this destroyed my gift shop. I'll be closed for a few days," he said.
