Police are looking for a man who they believe shot at officers early this morning at 4248 4th Ave. South. Police were called there at around 3:30 a.m. following reports of gunfire.
Officers say they found 22-year-old Travis Bruce trying to break the windows of the home. He was driving a Toyota Camry that was wanted for two minor hit and run crashes earlier in the Cromwell Heights neighborhood.
They also found blood splatters on the exterior of the car.
While they were arresting Bruce, police say another man drove by and told a police officer that he would shoot him. The man quickly drove into an alley behind the home and officers heard shots fired. One officer said he could hear bullets whizzing over his head. The man sped away.
A police supervisor said he saw a vehicle matching the description on I-275, but it sped away down an exit ramp. Police aren't giving a description of the suspect or vehicle because they say it might compromise leads detectives are pursuing.
They say Bruce has given them information which could help the investigation. Police are asking anyone else with information to call the police department.
"We're working under the assumption that there was a conflict between the man that we arrested and another man over a woman who lived at that house, and we're still unraveling all those details," said police spokesman Bill Proffitt.
