A Wind Advisory has been issued for several counties in Georgia as a severe weather system that spawned tornadoes across the south moved through the state on Wednesday.
The Wind Advisory is effect from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday. Wind speeds of 20 to 30 mph are possible, with gusts up to 40 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
According to FOX 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Joanne Feldman, a few showers will continue through mid-morning, and in the afternoon the temperatures will begin to fall as cold weather moves in. Some areas in north Georgia could see snow flurries as temperatures fall. By Thursday morning, most areas will see near-freezing temperatures.
Most areas in the metro area will see between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain on average, according to Feldman.
Feldman says a Flood Warning has been issued for Forsyth County, specifically the Big Creek near Cumming and Alpharetta.
The massive storm system produced tornado watches in Alabama. FOX News reports that a tornado touched down in Mobile, Ala. around 5 p.m., destroying several homes and damaging a hospital. The twister blew out the windows of downtown buildings and knocked power out to thousands.
To keep up with the weather threat, it may be time to download the FOX 5 StormTeam App if you haven't done so already. It's a free download in the App Store or Android Market; just search for "FOX 5 Storm Team."
