Two people are dead and one person is injured after another incident at the troubled Kenwood Inn in St. Petersburg.
Authorities say two masked men opened fire on several men playing cards outside the motel, which is at 705 34 Street North, and a shootout followed when one of the victims pulled a gun of their own.
"Two masked men approached in an apparent robbery attempt," said Mike Puetz of SPPD. "Both were armed."
One of the deceased was a suspect in the shooting, 25-year-old Garrick Lucas, and the other, Eric Carter, was playing cards. A 17-year-old, identified as Michael Cave, was taken to the hospital with injuries.
The motel has had problems in the past with drug deals and prostitution, and for a year, it was even shutdown. It reopened under new ownership.
The other suspect in Wednesday morning's shooting is on the loose, police said. Detectives are searching for him now, and they aren't sure if this was a random act.
"That's one of the things we're going to look at," Puetz said.
If you have any information on the incident, call St. Petersburg police.
