Suffolk County Police offers social media notification system

The Suffolk County Police Department is tapping into social media to keep residents informed by using Nixle, a web-based notification system that allows people to sign up for alerts via text , e-mail, twitter and Facebook primarily be for non-emergency notifications.

"Nixle is a cost-effective service that provides a platform for direct communications between the residents of Suffolk County and our department," Police Commissioner Edward Webber said. "It is an invaluable tool that will improve the department's communication with residents of Suffolk County. Public involvement is one of the most helpful tools the department has in fulfilling its mission of public safety."
