State unveils license plate poll winner

After three weeks and 50,000 votes, Floridians have chosen a cartoonish orange as part of the design for the state's new license plate.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles held the online poll to help choose the new design, citing a need to upgrade the state's basic plate to a design that increases readability and features a seven-character configuration.

Four designs were offered.  The most popular -- by a margin of only 566 votes -- proved to be the white layout with green bars across the top and bottom and the artistic orange making the "o" in "Florida."

The poll results will be factored in to a final decision, the DHSMV said, along with input from the governor, cabinet and other policy makers.
