It's quiet, serene - but just a few steps in to the ReNu Ultra Spa and Salon and you realize it looks – maybe even feels – like something out of this world.
"We wanted to take something that is usually a luxury and make it really available for everyone," said owner Scott Thompson.
The spa is in Tampa and offers the basics: hair care, massages, manicures and pedicures - but the CO2 Pod - and the state-of-the art sauna – are not so basic.
"Several of our equipment pieces you don't see out of like L.A. or New York," Thompson said. "And we wanted to bring all of that technology to the Tampa Bay area."
Let's start with the CO2 pod. It looks like a space ship but is actually a hydration station for your entire body. Step in, lay flat and relax for about a half an hour at steam of up to 118 degrees.
"We have a hydration station, which is amazing for your skin," Thompson said. "It has oxygen. Also, you can lose up to 300 calories per session."
And lying in the lights of the CO2 pod can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
Then there's the sauna. Sit, unwind, listen to music and sweat off up to 600 calories.
When people walk through, they are blown away," Thompson said. "They look at some of the spa pieces and really this is like back to the future; it looks like a time machine."
We caught up with Jessica Lawler while it was her first time at ReNu. and she gave just about everything a try.
"It was wonderful. It was very tranquil and very relaxing and I can definitely find myself coming back for more," she said.
Her favorite is the sauna, but the CO2 pod was also a highlight, she said.
"I have never even actually seen one in any salons I've been to," she said.
"People always ask me are you from L.A.?" Thompson said. "And no we just want to bring these services into the Bay area."
Call it a little bit of futuristic feel-good available on our mothership.
