Fayette County upgrading security measures at schools

Posted: Updated:

The Fayette County school district is taking extra steps to protect students and staff in wake of last week's school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

The district already has an emergency preparedness plan in place.  It was the first in Georgia to create a plan after the columbine shooting.

The plan covers any potential emergency that might happen, including an intrusion.

Now, district officials are using E-SPLOST funds to provide additional security measures at school campuses.

Middle and high schools will receive upgraded security cameras. They will also continue to have resource officers on each campus.

The equipment should be installed and working at all elementary schools by the end of January.
