MORRIS PLAINS, N.J. (AP) -

A train in northern New Jersey has struck and killed a man on the tracks, New Jersey Transit said.

The accident occurred around 11:10 a.m. Monday, not far from the Morris Plains train station.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder said the engineer of the Dover-bound Morris & Essex line train saw the man on the tracks and sounded the train's horn. The engineer also activated the emergency brakes, but could not stop the train in time.

The name of the man killed was not disclosed. Snyder said the accident did not occur near a gate crossing.

No one aboard the train was injured.

Trains on the Morris and Essex line were delayed about 30 to 45 minutes due to the accident, but those delays had eased by Monday afternoon.
