Authorities in Polk County have made an arrest in the December 9th murder of a 23-year-old Lakeland man.
Devon Anthony Sykes was taken into custody just before 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The Winter Haven man is being held without bond at the Polk County Jail on one count of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.
Sean Anthony Williamson was shot during the early morning hours near his home on Swiss Dr. in Lakeland. Another man was also injured in the shooting. His identity has not been released.
According to a Polk County Sheriff's Office report Sykes, 22, has lengthy criminal history. A majority of his prior arrests are drug-related.
Investigators say Williamson and a co-worker were returning from a night out in Ybor City when a dark-colored vehicle blocked their car in front of the deceased man's home.
Two black males allegedly got out of the vehicle and fired shots at Williamson and his co-worker. The co-worker drove himself to Lakeland Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery for a gunshot wound.
He has been released from the hospital but is condition is not known.
When deputies arrived at the shooting scene Williamson was lying in the roadway near the intersection of Swiss and Ponderosa drives.
