Gwinnett Co. police increase patrols at schools

Posted: Updated:
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -

Gwinnett County police announced Friday that in light of the deadly shooting at a Connecticut elementary school, officers will be increasing patrols in and around schools county-wide.

Police say the increased patrols will be a joint effort with Gwinnett County School Police and officers with the Gwinnett County Police Department.  There will be officers assigned to each school, and patrols will last for several days.

The department emphasized that they take the safety of everyone in Gwinnett County seriously, and they're conducting the increased patrols as a way of preventing any sort of "copy cat" or similar incident from happening locally.
