TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Former University of South Florida coach Skip Holtz has reportedly accepted the head coaching job at Louisiana Tech, according to BleedTechBlue.com:

We understand Skip Holtz has indeed accepted verbally an offer from #LATech as its head football coach. Holtz was previously at #USF & #ECU.

Holtz's name came up in the coaching search earlier Thursday.

Louisiana Tech was on the search to replace Sonny Dykes, who left to become the head coach at the University of California. Dykes led the Bulldogs for three seasons, amassing a 22-15 overall record in that time. He led Louisiana Tech to a 9-3 overall record and a 4-2 mark in the WAC this season.

Holtz was available after being fired from the University of South Florida at the end of the 2012 season. In his three years as USF, Holtz led the Bulls to a 16-21 overall record. The team was 5-16 in the Big East Conference during that time.

In 2012, the Bulls finished with a 3-9 record and were eighth in the Big East.

Holtz coached for five seasons at East Carolina before moving on to South Florida.
