Saints bring out best in Freeman

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

The Saints are exactly what Josh Freeman needs. A defense that's nearly as easy to pass on as the Bucs defense. It's a team that can get him out of his funk. In their last meeting, Freeman reached a career high with 420 yards and three touchdowns.

"I can't really say I felt anymore on top of the game," Freeman said. "Some weeks you just have more opportunities to take shots. Other weeks, you'll just have to check it down a little more. That was a game that the opportunities presented themselves and our guys made the most of them."

That meeting is the only time Freeman has shined against the Saints. He's been turnover free against New Orleans since rookie year and thrown for more yards than Brees during the last four meetings. So what is it about the Saints that brings out Freeman's best?

"When you are playing against guys like Drew Brees, guys that have won Super Bowls, said Freeman Is there something added? I don't know, I don't know. But at the same time you want to go get a win verses a division rival."

Since his career game against the Saints in October, Freeman hasn't come close to matching those numbers. Over the last seven games, Freeman hasn't thrown for more than 262 yards and the Bucs have lost three straight.

"I know it sounds like 'oh here he goes again'," said Greg Schiano. "But it is never just one thing. If it was, you would fix the one thing, but everybody would fix it. Be hard to win. He is a work in progress too. He is a young guy that is getting better. He has done some extraordinary things at the quarterback position since we have been here."

"Forget what he has done before we arrived. He has also had sometimes where he wishes he could have the throws back. I do see if you said that it was a stock, how is it going? Stock is trending that way [up] for sure. I know it is a what have you done for me lately business, but overall the stock is trending upward."

For the Bucs, their stock market closes on Sunday and signs point to Freeman to bring them a win.
