The Hillsborough County Health Department has issued an advisory about bacteria levels at two Tampa beaches.
Samples taken Monday at Ben T. Davis Beach and Picnic Island Beach were above the safe threshold for enterococci bacteria. The presence of such bacteria is an indication of fecal pollution, which may come from storm water runoff, pets or wildlife, and human sewage.
The department calls this a "potential risk" to beachgoers.
The beaches will be checked again on Monday. If the re-sampling indicates that the water is within the satisfactory range, the advisory will be lifted.
Such warnings are not uncommon for either beach.
