A Tampa police officer was hospitalized after breaking several bones during an altercation with a suspect overnight.
Officers responded to a call at 6415 S. Roberts Avenue around 10:30 p.m. The man on the phone said that if he didn't go to rehab soon there was "going to be trouble."
The suspect, who has not been identified, apparently waved a rifle at officers, and they opened fired on the man, missing him.
The officers ran and took cover, and officer Gerald Jean suffered a broken bone in his foot after falling down a staircase.
The suspect is charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
