The man accused of stabbing a woman in Dade City to death with a butcher knife went before a judge on Tuesday.
Lucious Smith is accused of killing Steffanie Ross, who was trying to serve him insurance paperwork.
Smith was living in an apartment complex for the mentally challenged known for the Harbor.
Ross graduated from Lakeland High School in 2005, then came back to work there late last summer as a paraprofessional. Her job was to mentor a student with disabilities. She left a few months ago for a better paying job at Integra Health Management.
A spokeswoman for Integra says employees typically go out in pairs. The company is doing an internal investigation to figure out why Ross was delivering the paperwork by herself.
Smith is being held without bond.
