Mobile bus provides free dental services for kids

Posted: Updated:
RUSKIN (FOX 13) -

What do you think is the biggest reason kids miss school? It's not because of a cold, or the flu -- the biggest reason children miss class is dental problems. Monday, a program rolled into gear that is designed to fix that.

It's the Suncoast Community Health Care Dental Bus. They were at Ruskin Elementary Monday screening 98 children for dental issues, plus providing sealant and fluoride treatments to these kids.

The Hillsborough School Board has come up with eight schools where kids don't have the resources to get what they need, so the mobile dental bus hits the schools and gets a look at as many children as they can. If a child has a serious problem, it is taken care of within 24 hours.

it's a program that is desperately needed in Hillsborough county and those who work in this dental bus, want to get the word out......

The mobile dental bus will be at Gibsonton Elementary in January, along with Cork Elementary and Bryan Elementary in Plant City in February.
