NY man arrested in Philadelphia hit-and-run

Posted: Updated:

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- A New York man is under arrest after police say he fatally struck a woman crossing a Philadelphia street then abandoned his vehicle a few blocks away.

Surveillance footage shows a sport utility vehicle streak through an intersection and hit 52-year-old Deanna Teal on Monday night in the city's Kingsessing neighborhood.

Police say 45-year-old Jerome Brooks, of Elmira, N.Y., never stopped to check on Teal. An officer followed a trail of spilled coolant about six blocks before finding a badly damaged SUV that matched the description of the suspected vehicle.

Brooks faces charges including murder and vehicular homicide. It's not immediately clear if he has an attorney.
