President Barack Obama has nominated a new man for chief of U.S. Central Command, based right here in Tampa.
The president says he'll nominate Gen. Lloyd Austin to lead Centcom. Austin was the final commander of the U.S. forces in Iraq, and he oversaw the drawdown of U.S. forces.
If his nomination is confirmed by the senate, Austin would replace Gen. James Mattis, who has commanded Centcom for the past two years.
