Airport pick-ups at Tampa International Airport are changing. A lot of times you can park in the arrivals area until the person you're waiting for get their bags.
Soon, if your loved one isn't at the curb, you're going to have to hit the road.
Dec. 20 is the official start date, but the airport will begin rolling out the changes during high traffic times between now and then.
"We're going to arm our traffic specialist with literature directing our customers to where the cell phone lot is," said John Tiliacos of Tampa International Airport.
Instead drivers are asked to park in the cell phone waiting lot or short term parking. That section is free for the first hour. The cell phone waiting lot offers real-time landing updates to time your pickup just right.
This lot has amenities, too.
"We have free Wi-Fi and vending machines and bathrooms," said Janet Zinc.
Or maybe you'll choose to greet your passenger in-person at baggage claim.
There's a way to do that, too.
"If you go up to short term parking, you get the first hour free if you can get in and out within an hour," explained Frederick Cornelius.
Thousands of holiday travelers will be affected by them this Christmas. The new rule helps the airport avoid a costly redesign of its roadwork.
Changing the traffic flow is expected to reduce traffic congestion.
