Authorities are searching for a suspected serial bank robber who escaped from Atlanta police custody. Revell Edwards was handcuffed and in the back of a police car when he somehow managed to slip away from authorities, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
Police say that Edwards, of Stockbridge, is behind two armed robberies in a matter of weeks. The first instance occurred on Nov. 13 at a SunTrust inside a supermarket on Eagle's Landing Parkway. Police say Edwards pointed a gun at a teller. Officers later arrested the alleged getaway driver.
Edwards reappeared on Tuesday at a Wells Fargo Bank on Jonesboro Road in Morrow, police said. Investigators said he presented a note to the teller demanding cash. He made no attempt to conceal his face, according to FBI Special Agent Steve Emmett.
An Atlanta police officer spotted the suspect later Tuesday and arrested him. He was in the process of being transported when he managed to escape, according to Officer Kim Jones of the Atlanta Police Department.
"He is a fugitive. He has charges against him regarding those bank robberies we discussed and frankly, any time anyone goes into a bank, whether they are armed or unarmed, and announces a robbery we take that very seriously. An individual that will do that is an unstable individual," Emmett.
Edwards was last seen in west Atlanta on Hollywood Road. He is considered armed and dangerous.
