While the Rays are busy making offseason moves, manager Joe
Maddon is hard at work to make sure everyone can have a holiday meal.
Maddon is once again hosting Thanksmas in Tampa and St. Petersburg this year. On Friday night, he's hosting a fundraiser at 717South on South Howard Avenue. Next week they'll collect the money and cook and serve meals at the Sally House and Salvation Army.
Several Tampa Bay Rays players, including Cy Young winner David Price, will be there to help. The Rays manager said he's focused on the homeless through his community service because he thinks it's an overlooked problem.
"I've been riding my bike this offseason from Seal Beach all
the way down to Huntington in New Port," he told FOX 13 Thursday morning. "Along
the way you see so many folks pushing their life in a shopping cart. And it's
still going on out there, and I'm still stopping and talking to them. I thought
that if I ever got a larger soap box, I'd take advantage of it."
Maddon hopes the event will bring awareness and raise money to help the homeless.
