Police: Teen murdered over drugs

WINTER HAVEN (FOX 13) -

Winter Haven police have arrested a 19-year-old in the murder of a high school student, and detectives say it was all over drugs.

The body of Alicia Dorene Barnett, a student at New Beginnings High School, was found on Chain of Lakes Trail on Nov. 12.

Detectives say Barnett was carrying a large amount of marijuana on her, and that Antonio Donte Callaway robbed her and killed her along that road.

He faces charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Police said the two went to school together.

Police said Callaway is a "known associate with criminal street gang members." He has an extensive arrest record.

"This is not the end of this case," Police Chief Gary Hester said. "We're still in the early stages of the case. The folks who were involved in murdering the victim will be held accountable. But also those who were involved in the drug trade."

Detectives are now looking for another person involved and are offering a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest.
