TAMPA (FOX 13) -
A FOX 13 viewer tip led to an arrest in a deadly hit-and-run accident in Tampa.
It happened early Sunday morning on west Hillsborough Avenue near Lincoln Street.
Omar Jeter, 22, was struck and killed while he was walking across Hillsborough.
Detectives say he wasn't walking in the crosswalk.
A FOX 13 viewer tipped off detectives about a vehicle with front end and windshield damage.
They interrogated the owner, and they say 18-year-old Fernando Chibas admitted to hitting Jeter and taking off.
He told detectives he was scared.
They say it doesn't look like Chibas was drinking, and they say if he had stayed at the scene of the crash, he wouldn't have been charged.
Now he is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving a death, and tampering with evidence.
