ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- FBI agents interviewed George Zimmerman's neighbors about whether he was racist.

Court records made public Tuesday showed that FBI agents talked to the former neighborhood watch leader's neighbors about his racial attitudes. The agents also interviewed a former co-worker of Zimmerman, as well as a resident about the legacy of racism in the city of Sanford as part of their civil rights investigation into the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Zimmerman is charged with fatally shooting Martin last February during a confrontation at a gated community.

Zimmerman is pleading not guilty, claiming self-defense under Florida's "stand your ground" law.

Protesters around the nation demanded Zimmerman's arrest. The Sanford Police Department was accused of racism and incompetence before Zimmerman was arrested 44 days after the shooting.
