Owens, 38, was transported to Bayfront Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.A 38-year-old St. Petersburg woman was killed Sunday afternoon in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 275 in Pinellas County.
Kimberly L. Owens was transported to Bayfront Medical Center where she later died. The incident occurred just after 2:30 p.m. north of 28th St. South.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report Owens was a passenger in a 1996 Ford Explorer driven by 50-year-old Phelicia McKinnon. The vehicle was traveling north when during a lane change McKinnon lost control.
The SUV veered onto north shoulder of the roadway and overturned several times. It came to rest on its roof investigators say.
Owens, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. A three-year-old child in back seat suffered serious injuries and was transported to All Children's Hospital.
McKinnon and the child were wearing seatbelts.
It does not appear as alcohol played a factor in the crash. No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
