A 29-year-old man was arrested Friday by Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies in connection with Wednesday's robbery of the Bank of America location at 4000 Lake St. George Dr. in Palm Harbor.
Cody Kent Waugh was booked into the Pinellas County Jail and released after posting a bond of $10,000. He is facing one county of strong armed robbery.
According to a PCSO report the robbery occurred just after 10 a.m. Investigators say the suspect entered the bank and handed a teller a note demanding cash.
He implied that he had a gun but it was not visible.
The teller complied with his demand and the suspect fled on foot heading north on Lake St. George Dr.
Detectives released several surveillance pictures to the media and it paid off. Friday morning an individual contacted PCSO and said the recognized the man in the photo as Waugh.
The suspect was located and questioned about the incident. Waugh allegedly admitted to committing the crime in order to pay his bills.
He claimed he used the money for rent, furniture and to purchase items for himself and his wife.
Waugh is no stranger to law enforcement. He has several prior arrests in Pasco and Pinellas counties on a variety of charges including driving under the influence and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver's license.
The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned on the charge next month.
