Hundreds of people gathered Friday morning for the funeral of a security officer who was killed on the job last week.
Michael Valentin was shot at the apartment complex he was patrolling last Friday night during what police said was an attempted robbery.
His funeral took place at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Speakers at the funeral included the officer who interviewed Valentin for his job with the security firm.
"Michael was a man of commitment, honor. Integrity, loyalty, all of the things we look for in one of our officers," said Major Hector Rodriguez.
Valentin spent several years working as a peace officer in New York before being hired at critical intervention services in October.
He leaves behind a wife and two children.
Larry Brown, 16, is in custody, charged in Valentin's death. He was arrested Wednesday, and charged with first-degree murder.
