The late Father Capodanno's Medal of Honor survives flood

For 45 years, salty tears have flowed from Jim Capodanno's kind-looking eyes. But now, after Sandy destroyed part of his home -- a time when you'd think he has every reason to cry -- the 93-year-old is holding in those tears.

He and his wife weren't so concerned about their home when Sandy hit but rather what was inside of it: all the military memorabilia from his late brother, Vincent, a Navy chaplain who died in Vietnam and was posthumously bestowed with the Medal of Honor. Vincent, who refused to carry a weapon, was gunned down while administering last rites to Marines and trying to help a wounded Navy corpsman in 1967.

Jim was afraid the storm had washed away Father Vincent's medals. He kept a lot of Father Vincent's memorabilia secured in this shed, like fragile audio tapes from the Vietnam battlefield.

All amazingly survived sandy, great news the Capodannos got from Monsignor Farrell High School students from a group called Hearing Heroes, whose only goal is to help veterans.

After Sandy, the Medal of Honor continues to sit safely in Jim's den. He said he has two sons and he plans to give them both the medal. Luckily, he got a duplicate from United States government.
