Husain Baaquel thought he was fortunate to walk away unscathed, after being robbed at an ATM. Today, he realized the extent of that luck.
The man police believe robbed him was taken into custody and charged with killing an apartment complex security officer last week during an attempted robbery.
Baaquel was robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday night, at the Bank of America ATM on East Fowler Avenue in Tampa.
"I look at the gun, I thought this is it. This is the end of my life. I'm done," Baaquel said Thursday.
One other victim was robbed by a similarly disguised man at the same Bank of America location on Saturday. Now, Tampa Police say the suspect, 16-year old Larry Brown, is also behind the murder of CIS security officer Michael Valentin.
Valentin was murdered while patrolling Grande Oaks Apartments off Hillsborough Avenue the night before Thanksgiving. He leaves behind a wife and two young sons.
Baacquel says the terrifying ordeal has left him with an entirely new perspective on life.
"What is important? My family, my life, doing good things that can stay forever with you. I think that's what is important," the USF senior said.
Larry Brown is charged with first-degree murder, and faces a list of other charges, including attempted armed robbery, two counts of armed robbery, grand theft of a firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm.
