TAMPA (FOX 13) -

A store clerk fended off a gunman without a weapon of his own.  It turns out he's done it twice in one year.

A robber rushed in to a Mobil station on Highway 60 in Valrico Thanksgiving morning.  He was masked and carrying a long barreled revolver.

Teddy Wu was inside working.

"You don't really have time to think about that.  All you want to do is protect you, and that's it, but after that, yeah, a little bit scared because you know there's a gun and maybe they have bullets," Wu said.

He owns the store, but felt more concerned with saving himself than money.

"I tried protecting myself so I just hold his gun making sure the guy is not facing me, and I pushed him out," he said.

It was a move he learned after his first fight.  In September, the same store and same clerk were robbed.  He was battered and beaten.  After this attack, he learned self-defense online by watching videos on what to do.

"There is like a teach you how to protect yourself and the most important thing is to make sure the gun isn't facing you," Wu said.

"Certainly we don't recommend that every day citizens try to tango with criminals, but in this case, the store clerk was not only very brave but very lucky," said Sam Sodos with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Wu describes him as a black male, 25 years old, with a thin build standing about 5-foot-9. You can see he's mostly covered in these security photos.

"The whole exchange between the store clerk and the robber was only 30 second long.  It was quite a dramatic exchange, and it only lasted 30 seconds," Sodos said.

Teddy said he grew up in China and got in to fights in middle school, but he'd prefer to leave those days behind him.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office hopes anyone who recognizes the photo of the robber will contact them.
