A local family has something to be thankful for this holiday season. It's a big surprise a little girl got today at school. It's been six months since Gabby Hoffs last saw her dad, who has been deployed in Afghanistan.
So when Gabby walked into class today and saw her dad sitting at her desk, she could barely contain her excitement.
She ran up to him, and gave him the biggest bear hug she could.
"I kinda just felt really surprised that he was here, because I thought he was coming back next week," Gabby said.
"Surreal. It's hard to believe that he's right here, but it's nice. We're excited to have him home," Wanda Hoffs said.
Gabby then got to go home early from school and spend the rest of the day with her family.
After surprising her, Lieutenant Colonel David Hoffs was heading to his other daughter's school to surprise her too.
He says the past six months have been really tough on the whole family.
"It's been hard. Thankfully, we've had Skype and Facetime and things like that, but it's not the same as being there," he said.
