LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) -- A Long Beach Island community that was among the areas hardest hit by Superstorm Sandy finally reopened on Tuesday.

Long Beach Township Mayor Joseph Mancini told The Press of Atlantic City that the reopening of the Holgate section is a sign that the island is "getting back to normal."

All Holgate residents were allowed to return home as of 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Holgate is where the Atlantic Ocean met the bay when the storm hit last month, and water rushed under oceanfront homes after breaching vulnerable dunes.

Over the weekend, New Jersey Natural Gas crews completed the re-pressurization of the gas main on LBI and natural gas is now available to almost all customers.
