While a large group of people were enjoying a party in a Largo neighborhood late Friday night, a few others drove by with much different intentions.
All of a sudden gunfire erupted as dozens scurried for cover. When it was over one man was dead.
"After the first few shots, there was another set [right after] going off," explained Ebony Green, who lives a few doors down from where the gathering was taking place. "That's when everyone went into a panic mode."
Green and her siblings were watching television at the time. When they heard the shots they hit the floor and stayed there until deputies with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office arrived.
Green estimates hearing approximately 24 shots.
"There are like a lot of kids on this block," she said. "A lot of people were terrified."
Gregory Antonio Williams II was the only person hit in the hail of bullets. He was transported by ambulance to Largo Medical Center where he was pronounced dead just before midnight.
The deceased has a history with law enforcement. Earlier this year Williams, 19, was released from state prison after serving four months on a concealed weapons charge.
Green says deputies told her the shooting may have resulted from a Facebook feud.
"[Allegedly] some people didn't like some people in Largo and it went too far," she says. "People were retaliating."
Partygoers have been questioned by detectives as they attempt to sort through the mess. So far no suspects have been identified by law enforcement.
Michael Sawyer also lives in the neighborhood. It's hard for him to fathom dealing with the loss of a loved one so close to the Holiday season.
"My heart goes out to the family," Sawyer said. "I just couldn't imagine especially the day after Thanksgiving."
Authorities with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office are asking for the public's assistance in identifying and bringing to justice those responsible for Williams' death.
In the meantime the Largo neighborhood is gripped in fear.
Sawyer: "It was frightening it had us on edge all night it had us up several hours."
