The season of giving has extended itself to a seeing-eye dog here in the Bay area.
Her name is Abbey, and thanks to the Tampa Bay area community she is alive and well.
Someone hit Abbey with a car earlier this week, and they didn't stop. Abbey was badly injured, and she needed surgery to save her life.
She belongs to Terry Ellrick, who is visually impaired and needs Abbey to get around, and when news got out about her injury, the community poured in donations to a local animal hospital.
By Thanksgiving, the animal hospital had enough donations to pay for her medical bills, and the manager told us she is doing well as she recovers from surgery.
The hospital, Bluepearl Veterinary Partners, also said that even though Abbey is doing wel,l they can always use donations because there are so many other people struggling to pay for veterinarian bills.
