'Tis the season of giving, and we have to remember to give back to those who help us out every single day.
It's so tough to know who to tip and how much. So etiquette expert Patricia Rossi offered these guidelines for tipping:
- Letter carrier: $20 gift card
- Hair dresser: Double tip plus a small gift
- Manicurist: $15 - $25
- Housekeeper: Full amount of one cleaning
- Hotel bellman: $2 first bag, $1 each additional
- Teenage babysitter: iTunes card, small gift from child
- Newspaper delivery person: $10 - $15
- Trainer/yoga/massage: Amount of one full session
- Trash collectors: $10 - $15
- Pet groomer: Double tip
- Valet: $2 - $5
What about teachers? Yes, Rossi says some deserve nothing less than a kidney from us.
"They're with our most precious possessions all day long," she said. "So really overtip them. It's supposed to be $20, but I say give them more."
And for anyone else not on this list?
"Anybody who makes our lives easier through the years, show them a little love," Rossi added.
