Security guard killed at apartment complex

Police spent the night at the Grand Oaks apartment complex just off Hillsborough Avenue, looking for the person who killed a security guard.

It happened around 8 o'clock last night. This morning, we're learning more about the security guard. His name is Michael Valentin and he was 38 years old. He was a Critical Intervention Services officer.

Those type of officers are often hired to patrol apartment complexes and neighborhoods to keep them safe.

People in the neighborhood are taking this hard.

"It's Thanksgiving eve," one resident said. "He was going home to his family, and now his family has to make funeral arrangements for him."

This is not the first time a CIS officer has been killed at an apartment complex. Back in May 2011, a 26-year-old CIS officer on foot patrol was shot and killed at the Mariners Point apartment complex in St. Pete.
