These kids may not be the best at sewing, but lack of experience hasn't slowed them down. They are on a mission to make blankets for every patient at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg.
Allison Rothman and her classmates at Madeira Beach Fundamental in Pinellas County started the blanket project last year. And this year their commitment has grown. Their goal is to make a blanket for every bed in the hospital.
"If I was in the hospital, I would want someone to make me a blanket to keep me warm," said Betsy Mauro, who is a teacher at Madeira Beach Fundamental.
Betsy Mauro is the driving force of this project and it hits close to home. Her son Chris spent time at All Children's Hospital as he was being treated for leukemia.
"This is a way of giving back to the hospital that started off and helped him so much," Betsy said.
The entire school has gotten excited about making the blankets, and it's amazing to see how much the kids have learned from making them. Christian Soto and his friends really believe they are making things better for the kids in the hospital.
"They feel thankful and that they are alive and good and well,'" Christian said.
